Brown algae or Phaeophyceae:
These algae have a unique mineral content (trace elements). Their properties are used for shaping and slimming (Laminaria digitata). They are harvested on the northern coast of Finistère.
Red algae or Rhodophyceae (Chondrus crispus, Palmaria palmata):
They are used as an extract in moisturising care and provide the skin with calcium and magnesium (Lithotamnium). These natural extracts of red algae are also a thickening and gelling agent: carrageenans (Carragheen: small town of Ireland where puddings based on algae have been made for 600 years).
Blue-green algae or Cyanophyceae:
These are unicellular algae living in freshwater, observable only under the microscope. They are microalgae. Among them, Spirulina, very rich in protein and carotene, improves the skin tone.
Green algae or Chlorophyceae:
These are algae rich in protein and iron, usually used in the food industry and in agriculture.
